Stamped concrete still requires appropriate excavation, support and placement. Decorative work adds its own decisions: pattern, color, borders and sealer. Compare estimates with the same preparation and slab scope before attributing the difference solely to appearance.
Reduce ambiguity in selections
Name the intended pattern and color approach in the proposal. Ask how borders, steps and awkward corners will be treated. More intricate layouts can require more forming and finishing work, especially where the design must align with doors or existing hardscape.
Consider repairs and maintenance
A decorative surface may need product-specific care and future resealing. Ask about realistic color variation and whether later repairs would remain visible. These factors matter when comparing stamped concrete with a simpler finish or individual pavers.
Review samples before committing
Screen images are a starting point, not a precise color standard. Discuss a physical sample or representative reference and the effect of sealer. A written selection record helps keep expectations consistent through the build.
